Crazy Rows: old vines and the hidden heritage of Chile
Why "Crazy Rows"?
The name Crazy Rows refers to the unique vineyards from which the grapes originate. Unlike modern vineyards, these old vines are not planted in strict straight lines. They grow freely as bush vines, without poles or wires, in seemingly random rows. It is this traditional method of viticulture that produces grapes with a distinctive character and a strong expression of their origin.
Vines with a Story
The grapes for Crazy Rows come from very old, dry-farmed vineyards in the Maule and Itata valleys. These vineyards are maintained by small, local winegrowers who have passed down knowledge and traditions from generation to generation. Many of the vines are decades old, even more than a hundred years old, and are grown without irrigation, allowing them to root deeply and produce grapes with extra concentration and character.
Three Unique Expressions of Chilean Heritage
Crazy Rows País
País is one of Chile's oldest grape varieties, introduced by Spanish settlers as early as the 16th century. The wine offers aromas of fresh red fruits, a light color, and a juicy, approachable style that perfectly matches the current demand for elegant, fresh red wines.
Crazy Rows Cinsault
Originating from the cool hills of the Itata Valley. This wine combines lively red fruit with subtle spicy notes. Light, smooth, and surprisingly versatile at the table, with an authentic character that beautifully reflects its origin.
Crazy Rows Moscatel
A remarkable white wine from old Moscatel vines in Itata. The wine stands out with its expressive floral aromas, fresh style, and lively fruit tones including grapefruit. An authentic interpretation of a historical grape variety.
Minimalist Wine Making
At Bisquertt, respect for terroir is central. The grapes are hand-harvested and the vinification occurs with minimal intervention. By preserving as much of the character of the grape and vineyard as possible, wines that are pure, honest, and authentic are created.
Discover a Different Chile
Crazy Rows showcases a side of Chile that many wine enthusiasts are not yet familiar with. Not international styles, but authentic wines from historical grape varieties, originating from old, dry-farmed bush vines and made according to traditional methods. The result is pure, characterful wines that bring Chile's rich wine heritage to life.
What makes this series especially noteworthy is that such wines are typically reserved for a higher price segment. Old dry-farmed bush vines, ungrafted vines, manual harvest, and iconic origin areas such as Itata Valley and Cauquenes Sur form the basis of some of Chile's most esteemed wine projects. With Crazy Rows, Bisquertt makes this unique origin story accessible to a broad audience.
