Sustainability

Sustainable business practices are crucial for the survival of the planet and humanity as a whole. By operating sustainably, Delta Wines aims to reduce environmental pressure and slow down climate change. Delta Wines is aware of the impact its operations have on the environment and society. Therefore, the company actively strives to minimize these effects, contributing to a cleaner, fairer world, with the goal of becoming carbon-neutral by 2050.


With this aim, Delta Wines continues to integrate sustainability into the organization. We focus on a selection of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. This selection was made with input from employees and other stakeholders.

Sustainable Development Goals

With these focus points in mind, Delta Wines implements the following measures:

  • Delta Wines refrains from any form of forced labor of employees.

  • The purchasing team increasingly focuses on a sustainable purchasing policy. In addition to price, quality, and delivery times, they also consider local working conditions.

  • Delta Wines minimizes CO2 emissions caused by inbound and outbound transportation as much as possible. When booking transport, we prioritize intermodal transport, short-sea shipping, and backhauls whenever possible.

  • Delta Wines reduces CO2 emissions by installing 1,000 solar panels on the warehouse roof, providing energy for 100 households or 2 million electric kilometers per year. Solar power is used to power forklifts, office computers, and six charging stations for electric vehicles, installed in 2021.

  • Delta Wines reduces CO2 emissions caused by heavy glass packaging as much as possible. In collaboration with suppliers, we explore lighter bottles and alternative packaging for our wines.

Science Based Targets

Delta Wines is a member of the "Science Based Targets initiative"; a program that helps companies formulate and achieve scientifically-based climate goals. The Science Based Targets Initiative was established in 2015 as a collaboration between organizations such as the World Wildlife Fund and institutions like the UN Global Compact and the World Resources Institute.

The "Science Based Targets Initiative" is inspired by the UN Climate Agreement in Paris and aims to reduce global CO2 emissions. By participating in the Science Based Targets Initiative, Delta Wines has expressed its intention to meet the goals of the 'Paris Agreement' and contribute to preventing the global temperature from rising, with the aim of keeping it well below 2°C.

By focusing on scientifically-based goals, Delta Wines, in collaboration with SBTI, is building the foundations for an effective climate strategy. In 2025, Delta Wines will establish its SBTI sustainability goals, which will focus on reducing or avoiding CO2 emissions in both operations and the supply chain. Starting in the 2025 financial year, the CSRD reports will annually detail the climate actions taken and the results achieved.


As a participant in the Science Based Targets Initiative, Delta Wines underscores its ambition to take an even more active role in combating climate change as a market leader. By joining SBTI, Delta Wines aims to present itself as a reliable, engaged, and sustainable partner for customers and suppliers.
