From 'crazy idea' to pioneer: 50 years of Diwald

Sometimes a special story begins with pure coincidence. For the Diwald family, it was a wrongly chosen seminar room where they first encountered organic farming. What was then an unknown and even questionable concept evolved into a lifelong conviction.

In 1976, Hans and Paula Diwald decided to completely change course and switch to organic viticulture. At a time when no one believed in it yet, and there were no official rules or certifications, it was a daring choice. Yet they held on to their vision, driven by the conviction that healthy soils and respect for nature are the foundations of quality.

Fifty years later, the forward-thinking nature of that decision is clear. Organic viticulture has grown into an important pillar in Austria, and Diwald is regarded as one of the pioneers of this movement. The second generation, Martin and Ulli, continue this philosophy with biodynamic methods and a constant drive to innovate.

The story of Diwald shows that true progress begins with courage, curiosity, and confidence in your own path, even when no one else understands you yet.
