Esporão

This vision comes together in their “Slow Forward” philosophy, where progress and respect for nature and time go hand in hand. The warm days and cool nights in Alentejo, combined with diverse soils and grape varieties, result in wines with a distinctive character. In addition to Alentejo, Esporão is also active in the Douro Valley (Quinta dos Murças), where steep slopes and schist soils form the basis for powerful, elegant wines.

Alandra
Alandra offers smooth, approachable wines from the Alentejo. This range features crisp white wines and smooth red blends with pure fruit flavors and a modern, uncomplicated style. Perfect for everyday enjoyment, with the quality you’ve come to expect from Esporão.
Monte Velho
Monte Velho captures the character of the Alentejo in an elegant and contemporary style. The wines are rich in ripe fruit, harmony, and soft tannins, with both reds and whites characterized by balance and drinkability. A true classic within Esporão’s range. The line consists of Monte Velho and Monte Velho Reserva. While Monte Velho stands for approachability and fruit-driven freshness, the Reserva offers more concentration, structure, and complexity, often achieved through the selection of higher-quality grapes and (partial) oak aging.
Murças Assobio
Assobio wines are fresh, approachable Douro wines that perfectly reflect the region’s vibrancy. The name “Assobio” refers to the whistling of the wind in the valley, and you can taste that character in their style: elegant, fruity, and with a beautiful balance between freshness and structure. They stand out for their smooth drinkability and refined aromas, making them ideal for both everyday occasions and light cuisine.
Colheita (BIO)
Colheita is Esporão’s fully organic line, produced with the utmost respect for nature and biodiversity. The wines combine freshness, structure, and depth with a pure expression of the Alentejo terroir. A modern and sustainable interpretation of Portuguese wine.
Reserva (BIO)
Reserva is the heart of Esporão: powerful, gourmet wines with finesse. Both the red and white wines are produced organically and are known for their complexity, rich aromas, and long finish. The Reserva collection is released each year with a new label, created by a renowned artist selected for that year. An iconic line that brings together tradition and modern wine art.
Bico Amarelo
Bico Amarelo brings the fresh, lively style of Vinho Verde to life. Light, aromatic, and invigorating, with a subtle effervescence and delightful citrus and floral aromas. A perfect choice for those who love modern, energetic wines with a Portuguese touch.
Private Selection
Private Selection represents Esporão’s premium range. These wines are intense, complex, and refined, made from carefully selected grapes and produced in limited quantities. They showcase the best the Alentejo has to offer, with exceptional elegance and depth.
Quinta dos Murças
The Quinta dos Murças line hails from the Douro Valley and showcases a more powerful and structured side of Esporão. The wines are made from indigenous grape varieties grown on steep, slate-rich slopes, which imparts depth, freshness, and a distinct terroir character. Within the line, the style ranges from approachable and fruit-driven to complex and layered, with a clear influence from the unique vineyards.
Olive Oil
In 2016, the company opened a modern, state-of-the-art olive oil mill, specifically designed for the production of premium olive oil. The olives are organically grown on the estate in Alentejo and carefully processed to preserve the purity, freshness, and authentic flavor of the region.
Wines of Esporão
The story of Esporão
Sustainability
At Esporão, sustainability doesn’t start with rules, but with a deep sense of responsibility for the land that nurtures their wines. They view it as a living partnership with nature: measuring their true impact, reducing emissions step by step, and constantly seeking cleaner energy sources. It is a journey that demands honesty, courage, and perseverance, and it is precisely that which has earned them international recognition as an IWCA Silver Member—a confirmation that their climate ambition is more than just words.
Organic Farming
Across the vast lands of the Alentejo, Esporão’s teams work with an almost meditative attention to everything that grows. Since 2007, they have consciously chosen organic farming—an approach in which chemicals give way to trust: in the soil, in nature, and in time. The same dedication is evident in their modern olive oil mill, ensuring that every drop of olive oil is produced with the same purity and care as their wines.
Preserving Biodiversity
For Esporão, biodiversity is a commitment. They cherish the natural richness of their lands by protecting and restoring ecosystems. Among the rows of vines grows a mosaic of plants that nourish the soil, attract insects, and make the landscape more resilient. Even in the steep Douro region, they do this in innovative ways, such as through vertical planting that brings air, light, and vitality back to old vineyards.
Respect for Heritage & Craftsmanship
At Esporão, every bottle is imbued with a deep respect for the land and the centuries-old traditions rooted in it. The estate’s history dates back to the Bronze Age, and that long lineage of stories, craftsmanship, and rituals still forms the foundation of their approach. Generations of knowledge are carefully passed down, while modern insights are embraced to bring together the best of the past and the present. In this way, Esporão creates wines that reflect not only the taste of the terroir but also the cultural heritage that shaped them.
Wine Tourism
Esporão offers a wide range of wine tourism experiences in both the Alentejo and the Douro regions. Visitors can explore the vineyards and cellars, take part in guided tours and tastings, and get a firsthand look at the winery’s philosophy. The estate in Alentejo is also home to the Herdade do Esporão restaurant, awarded a Michelin star and a Michelin Green Star. Here, sustainable cuisine takes center stage, featuring seasonal ingredients from the estate’s own garden and the region, perfectly paired with the estate’s wines.
